Volunteer Title: Skate Attendant

Location: Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge and Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton

Reports To: Sports Supervisor

Note: This role has an age requirement of 18+ years.

Summary

The Skate Attendant will support the health and safety of those utilizing the facility for Drop-In Skate times. Volunteers will be required to skate, so you should be comfortable on the ice. The goal of this role is to provide a positive experience to customers and ensure appointments/bookings are being fulfilled. This position can include the checking in those registered for Drop-In programs via an iPad; ensuring rules are being followed on the ice; ensuring everyone has the proper equipment prior to getting on the ice.

 

Time Commitment

This position requires a 6-month commitment. Volunteers are expected to commit to one (1) volunteer shift per week. Shifts are 2 hours in length and typically scheduled during evenings and weekends.  

Duties and Responsibilities

Health and Safety

  1. Maintain a safe environment by following YMCA Calgary policies and procedures
  2. Build relationships with members, participants, and YMCA staff and volunteers
  3. Communicate with YMCA Staff regarding any situations during your volunteer shift

Program Support

  1. Ensure safety, communication, and a sense of belonging are high priorities
  2. Manage risks associated with participation in programs
  3. Communicate, engage and enforce policy and procedures with all users.
  4. Trouble shoot and provide conflict resolution to any appointment bookings or user concerns
  5. Set up and take down equipment

Qualifications

  1. Clear Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search (volunteer letter will be provided after interview)
