YMCA Calgary Volunteer Position

Volunteer Title: LINC Classroom Support

Location: All YMCA Calgary locations and some community program sites 

Reports To: LINC Supervisor 

Date of Revision: December 2025

Note: This role has an age requirement of 18+ years.

POSITION OVERVIEW


The Classroom Volunteer supports LINC instructors by assisting with classroom activities and providing additional help to learners. This may include working alongside the instructor during lessons, supporting small-group tasks, or offering one-on-one assistance to learners outside the classroom as needed. The volunteer helps create a positive and inclusive learning environment and contributes to the overall success of the program.

 

Age requirement: 18+

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a safe environment by following policies and procedures to manage risks associated with participation in programs
  • Build relationships with the participants, their families and YMCA staff and volunteers
  • Ensure safety, communication and a sense of belonging are high priorities
  • Work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers
  • Communicate with LINC instructors and/or LINC Supervisor regarding any situations during your shift

SKILLS

At YMCA Calgary we ensure our volunteers are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following: 

  1. Experience teaching English as a second/additional language to adults
  2. Experience with using Canadian Language Benchmarks
  3. Experience with Portfolio Based Language Assessment


QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search 
  2. Three references – one can be personal reference
  3. Able to attend and complete required YMCA trainings which may be at various YMCA locations
  4. Available evenings and/or weekends if required
