YMCA Calgary Volunteer Position
Volunteer Title: Arts Program Volunteer
Location: Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge and Brookfield Residential YMCA at Seton

Summary
Arts Program Volunteers assist and support the Arts Instructor with running the arts programs. Arts Program Volunteers choose a program to commit to on a weekly basis for the duration of a session.
Together with the Arts Instructor, the Arts Program Volunteer will be actively engaged in the program activities, help build confidence in program participants and support a positive and inclusive learning environment. If Volunteers are interested, we welcome your contribution to the planning and delivery of program material, with support from the Arts Instructor.
Time Commitment
This position requires an 8-month commitment. Volunteers are expected to commit to one (1) volunteer shift per week. Shifts are 1.5 hours in length and typically scheduled at various times of the week.
Duties and Responsibilities
Health and Safety
- Maintain a safe environment by following YMCA Calgary policies and procedures
- Build relationships with members, participants, and YMCA staff and volunteers
- Communicate with YMCA Staff regarding any situations during your volunteer shift
Program Support
- Ensure safety, communication, and a sense of belonging are high priorities
- Manage risks associated with participation in programs
- Support in activities such as set up & take down of program, sign in/sign out process, classroom management, emergency response procedures and more
- Actively engage in program with participants and iterate program instructions as needed
- Work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers
Skills
At YMCA Calgary we ensure our volunteers are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following:
- Experience and/or interest in visual arts, dance, drama, music, or photography
- Experience and/or interest in working with youth aged 5-15 years
- Behavioral management skills is an asset

- Clear Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search (volunteer letter will be provided after interview)
- Three references (two professional)
