Volunteer Title: Aquatic Greeter Volunteer

Location: All YMCA Branches

Reports To: Aquatic Supervisor, Aquatics Coordinator, Aquatics Team Lead

Note: This role has an age requirement of 14+ years.

Summary

The Aquatic Greeter Volunteer will support the Aquatics team by helping manage capacity lines, basin capacity, and general support to the Aquatics Team. This can include activities like performing head counts, collecting water samples, assisting with cleanliness on the pool deck and providing support to our Test Mark Protect water safety program.

 

Note: This volunteer position is not in the water.

 

Time Commitment

This position requires a 6-month commitment. Volunteers are expected to commit to one (1) volunteer shift per week. Shifts are approximately 2 hours in length and typically scheduled on weekday evenings and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities

Health and Safety

  1. Maintain a safe environment by following YMCA Calgary policies and procedures
  2. Build relationships with members, participants, and YMCA staff and volunteers
  3. Communicate with patrons with regard to capacity procedures
  4. Communicate with YMCA Staff regarding any situations during your volunteer shift

Program Support

  1. Assist with administering wrist bands to support Test Mark Protect
  2. Ensure safety, communication, and a sense of belonging are high priorities
  3. Manage risks associated with participation in programs
  4. Assist with deck management (patron direction in high traffic times and lesson transitions)
  5. Supplemental help with set up and take down of equipment for programs

Skills

  1. Ability to work in a standing position
  2. An interest in Aquatics
  3. Previous Customer Service Experience is an asset
  4. Good communication abilities
  5. Multilingual is an asset

Qualifications

  1. Clear Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search (volunteer letter will be provided after interview)
  2. Three references (two professional)
  3. Able to attend and complete required trainings
