Thursdays from 5:00pm-7:00pm at Kerby Centre

POSITION OVERVIEW


Volunteers within the YMAP department will provide support to our coordinators in our off-site locations. YMAP is a program for high school youth who are Newcomers, International students, refugees, or second-generation Canadians. This role involves engaging with the youth, staff and helping to create program environments that are positive, inclusive, and safe for all. YMAP volunteers will be supervised by and require ongoing communication with the YMAP Coordinators.

 

Age requirement: 18+

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a safe environment by following policies and procedures to manage risks associate with participation in programs
  • Build relationships with the participants within the program
  • Ensure safety, communication and a sense of belonging are high priorities
  • Work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers
  • Communicate with YMAP Coordinator regarding any situations during your shift

SKILLS
At YMCA Calgary we ensure our volunteers are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following: 

  1. Desire to work with youth
  2. Time management and organizational
  3. Willingness to engage with the youth during program
  4. High level of commitment


QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search 
  2. Three references – one can be personal reference
  3. Able to attend and complete required YMCA trainings which may be at various YMCA locations
  4. Available evenings and/or weekends if required
