VOLUNTEER POSITION: YMCA Camp Riveredge Camp Counsellor
Location: YMCA Camp Riveredge, 1215 50th Ave SW
Department/Team: CCH/Outdoors/Riveredge
Date of Revision: March 27, 2026
Time Commitment: 20 hours per week, 1 Month commitment Scheduled times vary (8am-12pm, 12:30-4:30pm) 40 hours for 2 weeks
Staff Partners: Junior Camp Counsellor
Age requirement: 16-17 (Born in 2009 or 2010)
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Maintain a safe environment by following policies and procedures to manage risks associated with participation in programs
· Build relationships with the participants, their families and YMCA staff and volunteers
· Ensure safety, communication and a sense of belonging are high priorities
· Demonstrate and role model positive behavior and communication when working with other staff, volunteers, campers, and members
· Communicate with Camp Director and/or Coordinators regarding any questions that arise during your shift
· Be willing and able to work in an outdoor environment in all weather conditions
· Support an lead activities at all program areas

SKILLS - At YMCA Calgary we ensure our volunteers are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following:
1. Have an interest in outdoor pursuits as well as an interest in teaching outdoor skills to youth
2. Have a passion for working and supporting youth
3. Have strong interpersonal skills with a desire to demonstrate high quality communication, behavior management, facilitation techniques, and public speaking skills
4. Display high quality time management and punctuality skills
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Evidence of a clear Police Information Check and Vulnerable Sector Search
2. Three references – one can be personal reference
3. Able to attend and complete required YMCA trainings which may be at various YMCA locations
4. Current Standard First Aid with CPR-C certificated within the last 12 months from an approved AB OHS provider.
