YMCA Calgary Volunteer Position

Volunteer Title: Skate Instructor

Location: Shane Homes YMCA at Rocky Ridge and Brookfield Residential at Seton

Reports To: Sport Supervisor, Sport Coordinator

Note: This role has an age requirement of 14+ years.

Summary

The Volunteer Skate Instructor will support the health and safety of those utilizing the facility during Sport programs. Volunteers will be required to skate, so you should be comfortable on the ice. This position can include ensuring that participants are wearing the proper equipment; supporting leading Skate Instructors with the set-up and take down of activities; signing participants in and out of program.

 

Time Commitment

This position requires an 8-month commitment. Volunteers are expected to commit to one (1) volunteer shift per week. Shifts are 2 hours in length and typically scheduled during evenings and weekends.

Duties and Responsibilities

Health and Safety

  1. Maintain a safe environment by following YMCA Calgary policies and procedures
  2. Build relationships with members, participants, and YMCA staff and volunteers
  3. Communicate with YMCA Staff regarding any situations during your volunteer shift

Program Support

  1. Ensure safety, communication, and a sense of belonging are high priorities
  2. Manage risks associated with participation in programs
  3. Communicate, engage, and enforce policy and procedures with all users.
  4. Trouble shoot and provide conflict resolution to any appointment bookings or user concerns
  5. Set up and take down equipment

  1. Clear Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search (volunteer letter will be provided after interview)
