Volunteer Title: Youth Program Facilitator (Ages 5–12)

Location: Thorncliffe Greenview Community Association

Reports To: Planet Youth Manager

Experience Required: Some experience working with children

Note: This role has an age requirement of 16+ years.

 

Program Overview

TGCA and Planet Youth, in partnership with YMCA Calgary, are offering free summer programming for children ages 5–12 in the Thorncliffe and Greenview communities. Programming focuses on creating a safe, welcoming, and engaging space where children can build confidence, friendships, and skills.

Role Overview

Youth Program Facilitators work directly with children to help deliver fun, inclusive, and structured programming. Facilitators support activities, supervision, and transitions while creating a positive and energetic program environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support facilitation of games, art activities, and group programming
  • Actively supervise participants to ensure safety and inclusion
  • Encourage participation, teamwork, and respectful behaviour
  • Adapt activities to suit varying ages, energy levels, and abilities
  • Support transitions between activities and clean‑up
  • Assist with set‑up and take‑down of program materials
  • Work collaboratively with the Lead Facilitator and TGCA staff

Training & Orientation

A volunteer orientation will be held at the TGCA prior to the program starting. All facilitators receive clear guidelines, a program overview, and ongoing staff support. You will also be required to complete these training courses during your onboarding:

  • YBeginnings Orientation
  • Health, Safety, and Risk Training
  • Child Safety and Protection Training
  • Other training courses based on specific needs of role

Qualifications

  • Clear Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Three references, two of them being professional
  • Able to attend and complete required training courses
