Summary

Join our team as a Youth Outreach Volunteer to make a difference in the lives of youth and families! In this role, you'll oversee unstructured activities such as art and game nights, as well as open gym times, providing a safe and welcoming environment for participants to engage in recreational pursuits. Your responsibilities include supervising activities, ensuring the well-being of participants, facilitating positive interactions, and fostering a sense of community and belonging. If you're passionate about creating fun and inclusive experiences for youth and families, we'd love to have you on board!

 

Time Commitment

This position requires an 8-month commitment that may be up for discussion. Volunteers are expected to commit to one (1) volunteer shift per week. Shifts are a minimum of 2-hours and are typically scheduled on Weekday Evenings between 4:00-8:30PM and Sundays between 11AM-3PM.

Duties and Responsibilities

Health and Safety

  1. Maintain a safe environment by following YMCA Calgary policies and procedures
  2. Build relationships with members, participants, and YMCA staff and volunteers
  3. Communicate with YMCA Staff regarding any situations during your volunteer shift

Program Support

  1. Ensuring safety, communication, and a sense of belonging are high priorities
  2. Manage risks associated with participation in programs
  3. Setup and take down/cleanup of equipment used during programs
  4. Supervise unstructured group activities
  5. Engage with youth to build rapport within the branch community
  6. Youth mentorship and support
  7. Support for special events (if within availability)

Qualifications

  1. Clear Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search (volunteer letter will be provided after interview)
  2. Three references (two professional)
  3. Able to attend and complete required trainings
