Volunteer Title: Child Care Food Services Volunteer

Location: Quarry Park Child Development Centre

Reports To: Food Services Director and Food Services Lead

Note: This role has an age requirement of 18+ years.

Summary

The Food Services Volunteer will be supporting the team with preparation and storage of all food and supplies, and preparation.  They will be supporting the routine of the kitchen such as dish collection and washing.

 

Time Commitment

Volunteers are expected to commit to one (1) volunteer shift per week. Shifts are 3 hours in length and typically scheduled from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm on an ongoing basis.  

Duties and Responsibilities

Health and Safety

  1. Maintain a safe environment by following YMCA Calgary policies and procedures
  2. Build relationships with members, participants, and YMCA staff and volunteers
  3. Communicate with YMCA Staff regarding any situations during your volunteer shift

Program Support

  1. Ensure safety, communication, and a sense of belonging are high priorities
  2. Manage risks associated with participation in programs
  3. Preparation and storage of food supplies
  4. Dish collection and washing
  5. Maintain a safe environment by following policies and procedures to manage risks associated with participation in Food Services
  6. Work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers

Skills

At YMCA Calgary we ensure our volunteers are a fit based on their strengths, interests, and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following: 

  1. Willing to take the Food Safety Course through Alberta Health Service (Free, can be done during shift)
  2. Ability to work collaboratively with other staff and volunteers
  3. Able to follow risk management procedures and practices

Qualifications

  1. Clear Police Information Check with a Vulnerable Sector Search (volunteer letter will be provided after interview)
  2. Three references (two professional)
  3. Able to attend and complete required trainings
