Position Summary: The Communications Volunteer is responsible for the implementation of Alzheimer Society’s social media and communications, under the supervision of the Manager, Community Engagement.
Responsibilities:
Communications;
• Assists with the planning and execution of social media scheduling;
• Assists with the development and dissemination of press releases to media contacts;
• Effectively uses graphic design programs, such as Canva, to create flyers and brochures for program support and awareness;
Relationships: Reporting to the Manager, Community Engagement, the Communications Volunteer works as part of the Development team and has close working relationships with the Community Education and Family Support staff, and volunteers assigned to a variety of duties. The Communications Volunteer also maintains working relationships with professional colleagues, media personnel, event sponsors, community agencies, and other organizations and groups working with people living with dementia in Durham Region.
QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
• Postsecondary degree/diploma in Business, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Event Management or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training and expertise
• Minimum of two years’ progressive experience in communications, marketing and/or event fundraising preferred
• Strong project management, organizational, and time management skills
• Ability to work effectively with volunteers
• Superior communication skills, verbal, written and interpersonal skills
• Shows initiative, flexibility and resourcefulness
• Demonstrates above average problem solving abilities
• Works well as part of a team and is also able to set individual priorities
• Meticulous attention to detail
• Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects and deadlines
• Thorough working knowledge of: Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Canva
• Experience in a not-for-profit organization preferred
• Valid Ontario Driver’s license and vehicle available to travel throughout Durham Region
The successful volunteer will be required to provide a clear police check, including a vulnerable sector check, conducted within the last two months.
