Ecological Restoration: Invasive Tree and Brush Removal - Women's* Chainsaw Sharpening Workday

Women and Gender Minorities Chainsaw Sharpening Workday

Chainsaws are one of the most powerful tools used for restoring and maintaining our natural areas, but only if they’re sharp! Dane County Parks created the Women and Gender Minorities Workday series to create spaces for women, trans and nonbinary folks, and other gender minorities to have safer spaces to engage with conservation work, especially more male dominated activities such as using chainsaws.

It can also be difficult for women and gender minorities to feel comfortable learning about and operating machinery, and one important piece of this is rehabbing chainsaws between workdays. This workday is designed to share knowledge about the innerworkings of chainsaws while also making the chainsaws fit to use for another workday during the busy burn season when staff have less capacity for upkeep.

Anyone is welcome to attend regardless of chainsaw certification. If you have a saw, you want sharpened, feel free to bring it! This workday is open to anyone who feels it is an appropriate space for them to learn and work in.

This workday is part of our Women and Gender Minorities series which is made possible in part by funding from the Foundation for Dane County Parks and A Fund For Women!
