Brush Cutting and Burning Workday at Yahara Heights

Help cut invasive brush near the wetland edge. Volunteers will cut brush with loppers and carry cut brush to piles. If there is enough snow cover, we may also burn brush piles. The work site is about a 1/4 mile hike from the meeting location.

Location:

Yahara Heights County Park, CATON LN ENTRANCE, Caton Ln, Waunakee. Meet at the corner of Caton Ln and Riverview Drive. Park on street.

How to Prepare:

What to Know:

• No experience needed. Loppers provided, but you're welcome to bring your own. 
• Bring drinking water and snacks if you'd like. 

What to Wear: 

• Dress for the weather and wear appropriate clothing that you don't mind working in. Old clothing is great for these workdays.
  • If snow cover (several inches) allows for burning brush piles, wearing old clothes that you don't mind getting burn holes in, preferably natural fibers such as cotton or wool, (which don't melt), is advised. 
• Wear sturdy closed toe shoes that will keep your feet and toes warm.
• Bring work gloves (we'll have some to borrow).

Accessibility:

• Volunteers should be comfortable with walking on uneven terrain. 
• The work area is a 10-minute walk from the entrance. 
• There is no bathroom at this location. There is a bathroom located at the Catfish Ct park entrance. Plan accordingly! View the Open Restrooms webpage for more information.
