Gardening & Landscaping - Food Pantry Garden & Orchard Workdays at Anderson Farm

Food Pantry Garden & Orchard Workdays at Anderson Farm

Want to get your hands dirty for a great cause? Anderson Park Friends are looking for volunteers to help grow, pick, and pack fresh fruits and vegetables for local food pantries—and they'd love to have you join them!

The ¼-acre pantry garden, located at 805 Union Road in Oregon at Anderson Farm County Park, is part of APF’s agricultural mission for developing Anderson Farm County Park. Everything grown gets delivered to area food pantries to help families in need—and it’s all done by volunteers!

Steps to Register for a Workday:

  1. Contact Barb Hill to let her know you're interested in helping at a workday.
  2. Drop-in volunteers are welcome, but you may not receive communications if a workday is cancelled due to weather, etc.
  3. *** Note: there is NO online registration for these events. This page serves specifically to advertise the event. The event says full, but volunteers are welcome to join this event. ***

How to Prepare:

What to Know:

  • Whether you're a seasoned gardener or a total newbie, we’ve got you covered. Volunteers receive on-the-job training and supervision at every work session.
  • We follow mostly organic practices.
  • Most updates and weather decisions come by email the day before a session—or on-site if the weather’s uncertain.
  • We do some light cleaning of produce before pantry delivery.
  • We take breaks as needed—we encourage it!
  • We love volunteers who take initiative and help lead when they’re ready.

What to Wear:

  • Closed-toed, sturdy shoes
  • Clothes you don't mind getting dirty and working in.
    • Breathable, loose-fitting clothing is best for the summertime.
  • No jewelry (it can snag or get lost).
  • A hat and sunscreen is recommended.

What to Bring:

  • You don’t need to bring tools—we provide everything you’ll need. You’re welcome to bring your own, too.
  • Bring your own garden gloves
  • Drinking water (extra water if it's hot out)
  • A snack if you need
