Volunteer Trainings - Dane County Prescribed Fire 101 Training
Prescribed Fire 101 Training
This all-day class is for active volunteers who have been or want to be involved in prescribed burning and brush pile burning with Dane County Parks, and who do not already have one of the following fire certifications: NWCG S-130/190, DNR Ralph Scheffer's NFPA 1051 class, The Prairie Enthusiasts fire training, Goose Pond Sanctuary's Prescribed Workshop, or the Wisconsin Prescribed Fire Council training. This is not our annual fire refresher.
This is a new training provided by DCP staff that will cover the basic prescribed fire principles (similar to S-130/190) including:
- Wisconsin State Statutes for wildland fire
- Wildland fire behavior
- Rx Burn Ignition Techniques
- Wildland fire terminology
- Locating and sizing up the fire
- Wildland fire suppression methods
- Mop-up and patrol
- Firefighter Safety
Any volunteer who wants to burn with us is required to have either this 1-day training, OR another certification.
