YV4C Tree Inventory and Risk Assessment

Volunteers will step into the role of forestry professionals by assessing tree health and safety across parks spaces. Youth will learn how to identify signs of diseases, structural weakness, and environmental stress while collecting field data. Using Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools, participants will help map and inventory trees, gaining hands-on experience with the technology used by natural resource and forestry professionals to manage and protect forests. 

Date/Time:

  • Wednesday, August 26 from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. 

Location: 

  • Lussier Family Heritage Center at 3101 Lake Farm Rd, Madison, WI 53711
  • We will meet at the Heritage Center and then travel to site, location TBD. 

How to Prepare: 

Have Completed:

  • Background Check: Must be completed and passed. To provide permission, please log in to MyImpact.

  • Dane County Parks Volunteer Waiver (Under 22): To complete waiver, please log into MyImpact.

  • Behavior and Conduct Policy: This will be provided on your first volunteer day. Please read and sign the agreement at that time.

What to Know:

  • In case of cancellation, a notification will be made via email and/or phone to participants who have signed up.
  • No experience is needed. All tools and training provided

What to Wear & Bring:

  • Please wear clothing appropriate for the weather including a brimmed hat.
  • Please bring sunscreen and bug spray. 
  • Please bring a water bottle. Snacks will be provided.

Qualifications Required

  • Background Check Must be at least Passed
  • DCP/LFHC Youth Volunteer (Under 22) Must be Waiver Submitted and Approved
  • DCP/LFHC YV4C Behavior Agreement Must be Signed
