Living History Demonstrator
Demonstrate and interpret living history of everyday life in re-created 1820s-30s East Texas settlement and Akokisa Indian Village. Programs and events include the popular Second Saturday Settlers, Pioneer Tots, Pioneer Tykes, Pioneer Day and Homestead Heritage Day. Period-correct costumes are required dressing, available from the Nature Center costume closet.
Skills Required: Ability to use or learn of authentic-type tools and techniques of the period, such as blacksmithing, woodworking, archery, cooking, gardening, hide tanning, and spinning and weaving, to name a few.
Benefits: Sharing a love of Texas history and settler skills, educating youth about contributions of Indians and early settlers, learning and improving skills, social time with staff and fellow volunteers, interacting with members of the community.
