Sensory Garden

Outline of Role

To attend to our sensory garden, generally maintaining plantings including vegetable gardens, monitoring watering systems, weeding, organising new plants, sweeping, basic cleaning and working with the Recreation Coordinator to enhance the garden as required.

Times are flexible and frequency of attendances will vary with different seasons of the year.

New ideas and initiatives are welcome and where possible will be incorporated into the sensory garden.

The purchase of any materials or supplies will be paid for by FamilyCare.

 

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • An interest in and basic knowledge of vegetable gardens;
  • Ability to work and communicate with program staff;
  • An interest in contributing to a sensory space for our children in our programs.

 

Other Requirements

You will have a desire to make a positive contribution to the lives of families, children and aged persons from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds.

You must be aware of FamilyCare’s responsibilities to contribute to children’s safety and wellbeing and report any concerns about neglect or abuse to a supervisor or manager.

We will advise you of any occupational health and safety requirements that you need to be aware of and follow.

We will advise you of, and train you in, the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.

We will ensure you are aware of any relevant policies and procedures that are to be followed.

Supervision, support and training will be provided.

Safety Screening

Essential for all staff and Volunteers:

  • National Police History Check.
  • Applicants who have lived overseas for 12 months or longer during the past 10 years are required to provide the results of an international police check.
  • A current Employee Working with Children Check (WWCC) card is required.
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check (where applicable).
  • Current Australian Drivers Licence (where applicable).

FamilyCare will support and assist our volunteers with the applications and also cover any costs associated.
