RMP Cultural Assistance

Outline of Role

To provide support and guidance on cultural considerations of clients within the Refugee Minor Program. This may include:

  • Accompanying staff members to home visits or video link appointments with the client to support with engagement.
  • Interpreting basic conversations where formal interpreting is not required. Such as during play based activities with children and / or group work.
  • Providing cultural advice and insight regarding relevant cultural groups and the refugee experience.
  • Assisting with engagement with FamilyCare staff and programs.   FamilyCare staff will coordinate with the student’s school in relation to literature or schoolwork to be completed.

 

You will have a desire to make a positive contribution to the lives of families, children and aged persons from all walks of life and diverse backgrounds.

Skills, Knowledge and Experience

  • Good organisational, communication and people skills
  • The ability to communicate with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Good English language skills and the ability to speak another language relevant to the client group

  • We will advise you of any occupational health and safety requirements that you need to be aware of and follow.
  • We will ensure you are aware of any relevant policies and procedures that are to be followed.
  • Supervision, support and training will be provided.

Checks that are required

Essential for all staff and volunteers at FamilyCare:

  • Police Check;
  • International police check when applicable; and
  • Working with Children Check

 

FamilyCare will support and assist our volunteers with the applications and also cover the costs associated.
