Monarch Larva Monitoring Project 

Description:

Community scientists will walk designated areas of Herff Farm to count milkweed plants and search for monarch eggs and larvae. This hands-on survey contributes valuable data to monarch conservation efforts.

Training is provided on-site, and no prior experience is necessary.

Requirements:

  • Must be able to walk unaided on uneven terrain

  • Must be able to tolerate exposure to inclement weather (hot, cold, windy, etc.)

  • Sign-up is required to participate

  • Ability to work as part of a small field team

Logistics:

  • Team meets at Herff Farm, at the south end of the parking lot

  • Survey group proceeds to the field site on foot.

Recommended Attire:

  • Sturdy, closed-toe shoes

  • Weather-appropriate clothing

  • Hat, sunscreen, and insect repellent

  • Refillable water bottle
