Spring Volunteer Day

Join the Cibolo Center for Conservation in celebrating National River Cleanup Day, a nationwide effort that brings communities together to protect the rivers, creeks, and waterways that sustain our ecosystems. Each year, thousands of volunteers across the country participate in cleanups to reduce pollution, improve wildlife habitat, and ensure cleaner, healthier waterways for future generations.

At the Cibolo, volunteers will focus on restoring and caring for the beautiful Cibolo Creek by removing litter, debris, and invasive materials and will also assist with repairs and upkeep of Nature Center facilities, helping ensure the entire site remains safe, welcoming, and enjoyable for the community.

More details coming soon...but start getting your volunteer team together now!

Surveys and Research

Wildlife Field Research Week

Wildlife Field Research is a week-long bioblitz conducted every Spring and Fall on the Cibolo Center for Conservation's Cibolo Nature Center campus. During this research event, teams of community scientists combine their experience, knowledge, and enthusiasm to survey the Nature Center's current ecological state.

Community science engages people in the task of recording observations of the environment and its many inhabitants. These observations are used to make scientific assessments that inform land management decisions and show how human behaviors impact our natural world. New participants are trained in the field by team leaders who provide instruction and guidance on survey methods and data recording.

Master Naturalists, college students, teenagers, parents with young kids, and other nature enthusiasts all participate in this week-long event. Each person brings their own interests to the mix, creating a colorful and fun science community where camaraderie and friendships are made that can last a lifetime.

Surveys to be held this season include:
ants, amphibians, aquatic species, butterflies, dragonflies & damselflies, prairie vegetation photo points, prairie vegetation survey, riparian woody plants, small mammals, reptiles, and water snakes.

Our volunteer community scientists will be surveying and examining our plants and wildlife. Trail closures may occur on these days to avoid disrupting our scientists.

Please note that visitors might be asked to leave the properties during our surveys.

Interested in volunteering? Citizen scientists of all ages are welcome to help out!
