Farmer's Market - Chicken Docent

Are you passionate about animals and eager to share your knowledge with others? Join our team as a Chicken Docent at the Historic Herff Farm and become an ambassador for our feathered friends! As a Chicken Docent, you'll play a key role in educating visitors about our chickens, their behaviors, and their role in the ecosystem. Training will be provided on the day of shift.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Educational Engagement: Interact with visitors, including children and adults, to provide information about our chickens. Explain their natural behaviors, diets, and how they contribute to a balanced ecosystem.
  • Visitor Experience: Ensure a positive and engaging experience for visitors by answering questions, providing demonstrations, and sharing interesting facts about chickens.

What To Expect:

  • Being outside for prolonged period of time
  • Standing, bending, and sitting.
  • Volunteer shifts are rain or shine, tasks might vary depending on the weather

If you are unable to perform these tasks or need accommodations, please do not hesitate to reach out to our our Volunteer Coordinator at volunteer@cibolo.org so that we may make your volunteer experience at the Herff Farmer’s Market as inclusive and enjoyable as possible.

What To Bring:

  • Comfortable, weather appropriate clothing and shoes
  • Insect repellant
  • Sunscreen
  • Plenty of water

Getting to Herff Farm:

  • Come to 33 Herff Road through the main gate (that says “Herff Farm” over the top of it) and turn left
  • Park where convenient and enter the farmer’s market through the covered entry pavilion with grape vines overtop.
  • Meet up with the market manager at the Farmer’s Market truck (the powder blue 1959 Chevy Apache).
