Surveys and Research - WFR - Reptile Survey
Description:
Community scientists search for reptiles under rocks, in tall grass, throughout the woodland, and along Cibolo Creek. Species observed include anoles, skinks, whiptails, and other lizards, as well as ribbon snakes, blotched and diamondback water snakes, among others.
Water snakes are caught when possible, pit-tagged, and released on Saturday. This survey helps researchers monitor the diversity, distribution, and health of the reptile population.
Recommended Attire:
It is highly recommended to wear closed-toe shoes or boots and dress appropriately for outdoor fieldwork. Bring plenty of water, bug spray, hat and sunglasses.
Note:
If you have a fear of snakes, this survey offers a unique opportunity to learn to appreciate and respect these important reptiles.
