Dragonfly & Damselfly (Odonate) Survey

Description:

Participants in the Dragonfly and Damselfly (Odonate) Survey will walk through specified areas searching for odonates to photograph for later identification. Photos are submitted to iNaturalist and should not be edited or enhanced in any way—they are considered raw scientific data.

While prior experience is not required, this survey is best suited for participants with a DSLR or quality digital camera and an interest in nature photography. It’s a fantastic opportunity to practice outdoor photography skills in a scientific context.

This is an “on your own” survey. Participants conduct the survey independently at a time that works for them during the research week.

Important Notes:

• Weather dependent – this survey will be canceled if it’s raining or the temperature exceeds 86°F

• Must be comfortable working independently outdoors

• Submissions should be made via iNaturalist (instructions provided)

Recommended Attire & Equipment:

• Comfortable outdoor shoes

• Lightweight, weather-appropriate clothing

• Hat and sun protection

• DSLR or good-quality digital camera

• Water bottle and insect repellent
