Help us care for the beautiful grounds and historic spaces of Herff Farm! Volunteer Workdays are a great way to make a meaningful impact while enjoying time outdoors with fellow nature enthusiasts.
What You'll Be Doing
Projects will vary based on seasonal needs and may include:
- Sprucing up the Historic Herff Home
- Mulching trails and landscaped areas
- Garden maintenance and weeding
- Watering and caring for native plants
- General cleanup and beautification
- Light landscaping projects
- Assisting with other stewardship projects around the farm
No experience is necessary. Staff will provide instructions, tools, and guidance for all projects.
What to Expect
- Work outdoors for the duration of the shift.
- Tasks may involve walking, standing, bending, kneeling, crouching, digging, raking, lifting, or carrying materials.
- Volunteers should be comfortable working in varying weather conditions, including heat, humidity, insects, and uneven terrain.
- Some projects may require lifting up to 40–50 pounds. Lighter tasks are available for those with different abilities.
- Volunteers will work alongside Cibolo staff and fellow community members.
What to Bring
- Closed-toe shoes or work boots (required)
- Comfortable clothing that can get dirty
- Hat and sunglasses (recommended)
- Refillable water bottle
- Sunscreen
- Insect repellent
- Gardening gloves (if you have them—we also have some available)

Please enter through the main gate at Herff Farm and follow the signs to the Teaching Barn. Staff will check you in and direct you to the day's projects.
Weather
Volunteer Workdays are held rain or shine whenever conditions are safe. If severe weather requires cancellation, registered volunteers will be notified as soon as possible.
