Keynsham Library - Storytime

What is a Storytime Volunteer?

Our Storytimes are busy sessions where children and their parents come together to listen to stories. They nurture a love of reading and sharing stories in the young and help tackle social isolation for new parents.

What will I be doing?

The role involves setting up the space with cushions and chairs, choosing stories to read, welcoming children and their parents, reading the stories, helping with a creative activity like colouring, recording information such as attendance numbers and tidying up the space afterwards. Full training will be given.

Is it for me?

This role will suit you if you are enthusiastic, comfortable engaging with under 5s and their parents, confident speaking publicly, love reading stories, are passionate about libraries and understand the potential positive impact on children and young people. It is also vital that volunteers understand the importance of safeguarding.

Why should I volunteer with you?

For anyone who enjoys, or wants experience in, working with under 5's and their parents, this is a great opportunity to gain skills whilst boosting literacy in your local community, meeting new people, building confidence and having fun. We offer full training for the role and regular meet-ups with managers, as well as opportunities for personal development with B&NES Council's 'LearningZone'.

As a service we recognise the importance of volunteers in helping us to deliver a full programme of events so we reimburse travel costs and our friendly staff offer support, guidance and a warm welcome.
