Keynsham Library - Lego Club Leader
What is a Lego Club Volunteer?
Lego is a great tool for learning Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths (STEAM) skills and our Lego Club aims to help children learn these skills in a fun, engaging and creative way. The Lego Club is currently running as one-off events over the summer holidays and on special occasions. We are intending to make it a permanent group, running either weekly or monthly and as such we have no set days or times in place; this is something that will be further discussed with potential volunteers.
What will I be doing?
Taking about an hour and a half to two hours per session, this role involves setting up the space, explaining the theme of the session (such as ‘space’), discussing the models being built whilst encouraging children to be creative and problem solve, taking photos of the Lego creations, recording information such as attendance numbers, and tidying up the space at the end of the session.
Is it for me?
This role will suit you if you love Lego, are enthusiastic, creative and imaginative, can adapt to change, enjoy nurturing STEAM learning, are comfortable managing groups of primary school age children, understand the role of Libraries in nurturing literacy and other skills within the community, are willing to undertake any necessary training and will follow the Library Services’ policies and procedures. It is also vital that volunteers understand the importance of safeguarding.
Why should I volunteer with you?
For anyone who enjoys, or wants experience in, running creative sessions with children and their parents, this is a great opportunity to gain skills whilst helping children in your local community to build STEAM skills, meet new people, build confidence and have fun. We offer full training for the role and regular meet-ups with managers, as well as opportunities for personal development with B&NES Council's 'LearningZone'.
As a service we recognise the importance of volunteers in helping us to deliver a full programme of events so we reimburse travel costs and our friendly staff offer support, guidance and a warm welcome.
