Midsomer Norton Library - Knit 2, Share 1 Volunteer

What is a Crochet/Knitting Club Leader?

As a Crochet/Knitting Club leader you will help organise and lead the Library’s fortnightly club, 'Knit 2, Share 1', which will be a drop-in session, where people of all ages and abilities can learn new crafts and techniques, swap ideas and tips, and share their latest projects. We will encourage the members of the group to make 'Welcome Blankets' for refugees, and can provide materials for this purpose.

It's a very informal, friendly and supportive group that welcomes members of all ages and abilities, from older people to homeschooled children!

What will I be doing?

  • Setting up the space
  • Welcoming anyone who wishes to join in the session
  • Explaining and demonstrating the pattern/technique
  • Offering support and encouragement whilst people work on their creations
  • Recording information such as attendance numbers and handing out any leaflets or surveys as required
  • Tidying up the space

Is it for me?

This role will suit you if:

  • You are enthusiastic and creative, can communicate well, and enjoy working with people of all ages
  • You are adaptable to change and mess
  • You can work with staff to plan and organise resources
  • You can explain and demonstrate an activity or technique, teaching people to make and create whilst allowing them to explore their creativity
  • You are passionate and enthusiastic about libraries and understand the benefits to the community
  • You will adhere to all Bath and North East Somerset Council’s policies and procedures, including the Safeguarding and Equalities policies

Why should I volunteer with you?

If you enjoy, or want experience in, running Crochet and Knitting sessions with all ages and abilities, this is a great opportunity to gain skills whilst helping people in your local community to get creative, meet new people, build confidence, have fun and decorate the library. We offer full training for the role and regular meet-ups with managers, as well as opportunities for personal development with B&NES Council's 'LearningZone'. As a service we recognise the importance of volunteers in helping us to deliver a full programme of events so we reimburse travel costs and our friendly staff offer support, guidance and a warm welcome.
