Libraries at Home - Book Drop
What is a Book Drop Volunteer?
Book Drop Volunteers deliver books to people who love to read and are unable to visit the library themselves.
What will I be doing?
Book Drop Volunteers deliver books to reader’s doors, collecting and returning finished books to the Library.
This service was launched as a response to the Coronavirus pandemic and the necessary suspension of the Home Library Service, and has been designed to replace part of that service whilst observing social distancing protocols. It proved very popular, so we have decided to continue it along side our Home Library Service.
As a Book Drop Volunteer, you can expect to:
- Read and understand the volunteer guidelines and risk assessments
- Deliver books and library resources to the readers
- Telephone the readers to say when the next delivery will be
- Select books from your local library
- Return the reader’s books to the library when they’ve been read
You are NOT expected to:
- Enter the reader’s home
- Run other errands for the readers
Is it for me?
This role will suit you if you:
- Are enthusiastic about libraries and understand the personal impact of not being able to access them
- Can access your local library (Bath, Keynsham or Midsomer Norton)
- Are concerned about the social isolation of housebound people
- Have a few hours a month to make a positive difference to other people’s lives
- Are aware of the role of Libraries in society
- Understand the importance of safeguarding
Why should I volunteer with you?
This is the perfect opportunity for anyone who wants to make a real and direct difference to your community by providing Library resources to those otherwise unable to access them. Being a Book Drop Volunteer means helping socially isolated people feel less lonely and feel more included and involved. You will be serving in your local community, meeting new people, and helping others.
Our volunteers receive full training for the role, have regular contact with their manager and access to a variety of online training for personal and professional development.
We recognise the importance of volunteers in helping us to deliver a better service, so we reimburse travel costs and our friendly staff offer support, guidance and a warm welcome. On our last volunteer survey (October, 2019) our staff welcome was rated 4.8 out of 5 stars!
