Food Distribution Volunteer Role Description
About Us
The Esperanza Center is a comprehensive resource center whose mission is to welcome immigrants by offering hope, compassionate services, and the power to improve their lives. Since 1963, immigrants from all over the world have trusted the center to help them navigate life in a new country. Our dedicated staff and volunteers provide services related to education, health care, immigration legal matters, family reunification, and general community support to thousands of immigrants each year.
Description
Esperanza Center partners with So What Else? Baltimore, Comite Latino, and Salem United Methodist Church to provide food to those in the community. Volunteers help with set up, clean up, sharing resources, and distributing the food to attendees.
Tasks
- Assist with event setup and cleanup
- Greet distribution attendees
- Help distribute food to attendees
- Share information and resources with attendees as needed
- Other tasks as assigned
Requirements
- 18 years of age or older
- Reliable transportation to and from distribution location
- Committed to diverse work environment
- Proficiency in English and Spanish is a plus
- Background check required
Physical Demands
- Able to remain in standing position for majority of volunteer time
- May require being outdoors for portion of volunteer time
- Frequently lifts and transports up to 20lbs
- Frequently moves around the event space
- Frequently bends and grabs
- Sometimes positions self to help set up/break down foldable tables
- Able to communicate information and ideas so others will understand.
Schedule
The food distribution takes place in Highlandtown on Friday mornings. Specific location and scheduling details will be provided to accepted Food Distribution Volunteers.
**Please note that the first step in the process of becoming a Food Distribution Volunteer is to attend a Volunteer Information Session, which can be scheduled through the volunteer application**
