3. Practical Tasks - Habitat restoration at Driver Farm- Devils-bit Scabious planting
As part of habitat improvement plans at Driver Farm, near Challacombe, we're going to be planting several thousand Devil's-bit scabious plants. These are a great food source for the Marsh Fritillary butterfly, which we have plans to reintroduce in the next few years.
One of the UKs rarest and most threatened butterflies, the Marsh Fritillary is now mostly restricted to the west of Scotland, Northern Ireland, south and west Wales, and the southwest of England, with a few scattered populations elsewhere. With some small adjustments and help from volunteers, conditions Driver Farm will be an ideal spot for a reintroduction of this species there to help boost their population on Exmoor.
