8. Historic Signpost Project - Historic Signpost Volunteer Basic training

This Role involves keeping a watching brief on our signposts.   using hand tools to clear vegetation from around them, washing off road grime and algae, and occasionally repainting them.

Depending on there location (closeness to a road, size/speed of road, need for working at height etc) and the level of training you have had some signs may only be keeping a watching brief.

We run some training days to find out more and get you to a point where you can work on the 'safer' located signs and help you assess which these are.

our training days move around the Somerset part of Exmoor (the project is to restore the cast iron signpost in somerset (there are very few in the Devon Part of Exmoor).

The next training day will be in WINSFORD

We'll cover road side safety, safe tool use and take a tour of local signposts.   If the weather allows we'll do some painting and cleaning of the finger posts as a group as well.

After that we'll do a stock take of which other signs spread around the national park we have, and assign people to specific signposts to care for.
