Role Name: House Parent
Date/Time: Seeking consistent and flexible visits weekly.
Location: Dallas Hope Center, Dallas, TX 75228
Located West of White Rock Lake. For the safety and privacy of our residents, the address will be provided upon assignment approval.
Summary: We are seeking dedicated House Parents to play an active role in the lives of our residents, providing mentorship, skill-building opportunities, and accountability. This is a relationship-based role that fosters stability and growth for young adults in our transitional housing program.
Responsibilities:
- Build relationships with residents as a mentor and positive role model.
- Teach life skills based on resident interests (e.g., cooking, budgeting, job prep).
- Check in regularly to offer guidance, encouragement, and support.
- Conduct random drop-bys to ensure residents are up and engaged in their day.
- Help reinforce accountability for residents’ personal growth plans.
- Be an extra set of eyes and ears to support staff in maintaining a safe and stable environment.
Why This Role Matters: Having frequent, trusted adult presence in the house helps prevent safety and behavioral issues that staff may not always be available to address. House Parents provide consistent support and structure to help residents stay on track with the goals they set with the Resident Coordinator—whether that’s education, employment, or personal development.
Volunteer Needs & Expectations:
- Volunteers should be able to commit to consistent, flexible visits throughout the week.
- House Parents will work in collaboration with staff but must be comfortable taking initiative in offering support.
- Training will be provided to help ensure alignment with DHC’s values and approach.
- Identify with the LGBTQIA+ community -OR- be a strong ally of the LGBTQIA+ community.
Qualifications:
- Experience in mentorship, social work, education, or coaching is preferred but not required
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Patient, compassionate, and proactive qualities
- Ability to prepare and deliver engaging and informative sessions
- Pass Background Check
- Signed Confidentiality Agreement
