3 - Prog: Litter Care - Rivers - Litter Care Lead
Litter location: in Chapel Hill off Homestead Rd
RESPONSIBILITIES
The litter care lead is responsible for all the chores (puppy health, dam health, cleaning, etc.) on the shift and managing the litter care helpers. Litter care leads should be comfortable directing other volunteers and must attend the weekly litter care meeting on weeks they have shifts.
SHIFT QUALIFICATION AND ASSIGNMENTS
Signing up for a shift here does not mean you have been assigned. Shifts are visible to the public but you must be approved as a lead before you will be assigned a shift.
If you are new to litter care, do not sign up for lead shifts yet! Steps to become qualified as a lead include:
- reviewing the litter care basics presentation
- passing the litter care quiz
- completing at least three shifts as a helper
- letting us know you are interested in becoming a lead by reaching out to the litter manager (preferred) or volunteer coordinator (if no litter manager is listed) from the contacts page.
Once qualified as a lead, you will only be assigned shifts if you also:
- sign up for an average of 2 shifts per week you are active. This could be 2 shifts in one week, 4 shifts over 2 weeks (even if distributed unevenly), etc.
- sign up for and attend the litter care meeting for each week you are active as a lead.
The litter manager will assign shifts to fit the needs of the litter, so once you have signed up please double check posted shift assignments before showing up for a shift. You may not be assigned all shifts you sign up for. Post in the litter Slack channel if you have questions about the status of a shift.
Shifts are assigned to create continuity for the litter team. This means leads who sign up for more shifts are given priority; however we also want to leave shifts for newer leads to learn.
CANCELING A SHIFT
Once you have been assigned a shift, you are committed to your shift. Be aware that we build a lot of plans on these assignments and cancelations can be quite difficult to juggle, especially for leads. Shifts are set up to allow you to cancel a shift yourself if it is more than one week out. If you need to cancel an assigned shift within a week of that shift, please post a message in the Slack litter channel explaining your need to cancel and asking if anyone can cover your shift. Please @tag the litter manager in your post asking for help removing your assignment to be sure your message is seen. The litter manager will remove your shift assignment so someone else can sign up for it.
