Title:
Royal Museum Shop - Cash Handling and Customer Service
Background:
You will be stationed in the gift shop in the main lobby. The Royal Museum Shop carry high quality items including Indigenous art, British Columbia products, and a wide selection of books that reflect the human and natural history of our magnificent province Meet visitors from all over the world. Volunteers must be friendly and outgoing and enjoy working with the public in a busy environment. After completing training on product and customer service, volunteers receive training in cash handling.
Objective:
To provide efficient and friendly service, while working with the public in a busy environment.
Duties:
- To work as part of a team that offers excellent customer service to visitors.
- To maintain a working knowledge of current Museum procedures, activities, and exhibits by participating in meetings, training sessions and by reading the provided memo book.
- To offer general information to visitors in a helpful and friendly manner, and to be aware of resources where visitors may obtain further information.
- To be an ambassador of the Museum – both at the Museum and in the community.
- To present a friendly and professional image consistent with the status of the Royal BC Museum and the demands of the job, including following the museum’s clothing guidelines.
- Willing to find a substitute for absences
Qualities:
- Must enjoy and work well with visitors and co-workers
- Must have a desire to learn about the Museum and customer service skills
- Must be physically able to perform duties as required, including standing for 3.5 to 4 hours
- Must work well in a high volume environment.
Time Commitment:
The shift schedule is approximately 3.5 to 4 hours per week plus biannual updating meetings.
