Title: Royal Museum Shop - Shipping and Receiving Assistant
Background:
Assist in the Museum Shop Shipping/Receiving area. Activities include correctly receiving and pricing products that will be sold in the Gift Shop. The Shop generates revenue that supports the work of the Royal BC Museum.
Objective:
To support the objectives of Royal BC Museum Foundation by assisting in the Museum Shop Shipping/Receiving area in order to maximize generated revenue through the Royal Museum Shop. The Royal BC Museum Foundation is a highly dedicated and committed non-profit organization that has been exclusively focused on supporting the Royal BC Museum since 1970.
Duties:
- To learn and follow appropriate Royal BC Museum Foundation policies and procedures
- To keep informed by reading the Memo book in the coat room
- To place personal belongings in lockers provided in the coat room (locks to be signed out from security)
- Open boxes to be received, unpack and count product against the provided invoice or packing slip.
- Bring any discrepancies to the attention of the Shipper/Receiver.
- Correctly match price labels with product in an accurate and timely manner.
- Place products on shelves when pricing is complete.
- Keep product on the shelves and in the aisles tidy when shelving backstock product.
- Break down and recycle or dispose of packing materials in appropriate bins or bags.
- Ensure products are handled with care.
- To be self-sufficient in regard to following through with daily tasks accurately, requiring minimal assistance from staff.
- To track hours on Better Impact.
- To support your role in a friendly and professional manner.
Qualifications:
- Must physically be able to bend and lift. To move light weight items into and out of boxes, shelves and a mobile cart. To lift product out of boxes and onto receiving table while ensuring items are handled with care.
- Good communication skills
- Ability to show initiative towards required duties.
- Able to commit to a regular shift.
- Able to follow the direction given by the Shipper/Receiver.
- Friendly personality and positive attitude.
Qualities:
- Dress in a casual professional manner (no denim).
- Provide a spare to cover shifts when possible.
Time Commitment:
- Must commit to 4 shifts a month, dependent on the needs of the business.
- No minimum or maximum hours required; flexibility is an asset.
- Must be able to arrive on time and stay for the length of the assigned shift.
- To participate in a Royal BC Museum orientation and complete all required Royal BC Museum training.
- To make a 3-month commitment to the position.

Supervisors will provide feedback, acknowledgement, and recognition of the volunteer’s successes and achievements.
