Training - Alpine Stand-up Ski and Snowboard Activity Training

Each winter, we have many participants who are Stand Up Skiers and Snowboarders. They may live wth a visual impairment, a limb difference, or neurodiversity. Stand Up Ski and Snowboard training will go over all of these disciplines and the best ways to support our participants!

Visual Impairments (VI): A small amount of our participants will be visually impaired in some way. During this training, volunteers will both be able to experience what it is like as a VI skier or rider, plus gets tips and practice on guiding others who are visually impaired.

Neurodivergence: This session will introduce to you a few types of cognitive and social challenges, and give you tools to help assist guests who live with them. We also cover different teaching tools and adaptive equipment that can help our students get the most out of their time on snow!

3 or 4 Track Skiers: These skiers use pieces of equipment called outriggers to help support them, thus leaving 3 or 4 tracks through the snow. These skiers may live with limb differences or amputations, or need support to balance. We will go over the set up of outriggers and how they ay be used on snow by our participants.

We ask that all volunteers who attend training are comfortable managing their speed and turning on blue runs, as well as loading/unloading chairlifts without assistance. If you are a skier we highly recommend the ability to parallel ski. For snowboarding, the ability to turn on your heelside and toeside is highly recommended.
