Rocky Mountain Adaptive

Local Canmore school OLS (Our Lady of the Snows Catholic Academy) is running group lessons at the Canmore Nordic Centre for 4 weeks! We are working with OLS to provide lessons for their adaptive students, run by Trail Sports instructors. Please note that RMA staff are not present during this activity.

One female student in grade 3 is learning to nordic ski! This student will be joined with their own EA, but the EA does not have any nordic skiing experience, which is where an amazing RMA volunteer comes in. 

The OLS students will arrive at the Canmore Nordic Centre around 9:00am to get their rentals and get ready for skiing. Lessons will start at 9:30am and go until 11:00am. Volunteers should expect to help with very basic skill development based on the Trail Sports instructor guidance, positive encouragement, motivation, and just generally having a fun time learning to ski! 

Session will take place at the Canmore Nordic Centre and volunteers will be provided a free pass for day out. If possible, it would be ideal if volunteers are able to come out for more than one day to form relationship with participant.

Please bring winter clothing (windproof pants, snow jacket, warm toque, waterproof gloves, scarf), water, nut-free snacks, nordic skis, boots, poles, and anything else you may need for a day of cross country skiing.

Volunteers are scheduled 15 minutes prior to the lesson start time to meet with the instructor. Please meet the instructor at the Trail Sports.

Unless you are in possession of a season pass for the Canmore Nordic Centre, a complimentary ticket will be issued to you for this activity which can be used if you choose to ski after on your own. To obtain a trail pass please speak to the Nordic Centre staff at the Pass Desk and indicate that you are volunteering that day with RMA.
