C.I.T. Training Opportunities

We have planned out these training courses to give you the expert nature knowledge and camp readiness you need to excel at camp next year.  Each of these programs will focus on general nature knowledge as well as specific skills you can use during camp!

 

  • Saturday, February 14th ,10:30 am-12:00 pm -- Maple Sugar and other Wild Edibles. Tap a maple tree and learn how maple sugar is made. We will also focus on edible plants and activities you can do at camp. California Woods Nature Preserve

 

  • Friday, March 20th, 7:45 pm-9:15 pm -- Woodcock Equinox Walk This is your chance to see and hear the strange twilight courtship of the secretive timberdoodles (AKA woodcocks) as they pause here on their way north. Explore what it’s like to be a worm-eating, wall-eyed daredevil. French Park

 

  • Saturday, April 11th, 10:30 am-12:00 pm -- Spring Wildflowers Learn about local perennials and how to identify them. We’ll discuss their importance and their role in the ecosystem. We will see first-hand the importance of forest management and invasive species removal. LaBoiteaux Woods.

 

  • Saturday, May 2nd, 10:30 am-12:00 pm -- Herps and Salamander Walk Be the star of the show at the creek during camp with your knowledge of catching and safely handling creatures. We will have experts in Herpetology lead us on a creek expedition. French Park Creek

 

  • Saturday, November 8, 2025, 10:30 am-12:00 pm -- Plant ID and Fall Foliage. Learn common plants in the woods, how to identify plants and how to adapt to a camp environment. Trailside Nature Center (Burnet Woods)

 

  • Saturday, December 13, 2025, 10:30 am-1:30 pm – Mammals / Animal Talks / Cookies.  Learn all about the mammals in the woods, meet our program animals and learn how to handle them. Holiday Cookie decorating. Caldwell Nature Preserve
