Below are the roles we will be looking to actively recruit to help support our services.

A&E Volunteer

We are looking for volunteers to support our team in the Emergency Department (otherwise known as A&E).  Can you help our staff and patients by sparing some time to help in the waiting area and across the department?  

You will need to be over 18 to do this role. 

North Cambs Hospital Peckover Ward (Endoscopy Unit)

We are looking for some support the with various duties to enhance the patient experience whilst they’re in Peckover Ward (Endoscopy Unit). This is based at North Cambs Hospital, Wisbech.

Volunteer help is needed between the hours of 9:00am - 13:00pm Monday to Friday.

You will need to be over 18 to apply for this role. 

Breastfeeding Peer Supporter

Operating within the Maternity Department, these dedicated volunteers are women with personal breastfeeding experience who provide valuable support to new mothers on their infant feeding journey. They play an essential role within the team, offering encouragement and guidance to help mothers feed their babies confidently and effectively, while supporting them in achieving their individual feeding goals.

All volunteers will receive specialist Peer Support Training to equip them for this role. Volunteering is flexible, with time commitments arranged to suit individual availability.

Urology Outpatient Clinic Support

This role is working alongside the team in the urology by correctly placing/removing notes from the trolley, collecting any missing notes. Putting patients at ease as they come in for appointments – good communication is key. Providing light refreshments to patients will also be required.

Morning and afternoon clinic cover is required.

Telephone Reminder Volunteer Radiology

Do you love to chat to people?  Do you have good admin skills and a great telephone manner?  We are looking for volunteers to support our radiology team making calls to patients three days prior to their appointment. These reminder calls will help patients to be better prepared for their appointment and help to reduce barriers to attending. 

Frailty SDEC Support

You will be providing support to the staff and nursing team on Frailty SDEC, ward. This will involve providing light refreshments to the patients, collecting of medication, social interaction with patients, and other ad-hoc duties required on the ward. Gaining feedback from patients and loved ones.

Dementia Support Volunteer

You will be providing support to the dementia specialist team.  Under the guidance of the dementia specialist nurse and dementia support workers you will speak with patients and their families to gather feedback. You will support the team to sit with patients and engage them in activities such as jigsaws or visiting the dementia friendly garden to take part in outdoor activities.

These reminder calls will help patients to be better prepared for their appointment and help to reduce barriers to attending. 

Elm Ward

Elm is a ward that specialises in non-elective surgery, where you will be supporting the team in a range of tasks such as:

  • Preparing refreshments for patients 
  • Help patients complete Menu Cards
  • Serving lunches from meal trolley
  • Refresh and refill water jugs
  • Ensure the kitchen area is kept clean and tidy
  • Sit with a patient to provide comfort, reassurance and support if required. 
  • Assist the nursing team by taking prescriptions to / collecting from the pharmacy

SAU Ward Support

You will be providing support to the staff and nursing team on Surgical Assessment Unit. This will involve providing light refreshments to the patients, collecting of medication, social interaction with patients, and other ad-hoc duties required on the ward. Gaining feedback from patients and loved ones.

Oxborough Ward Support

You will be providing support to the staff and nursing team on Oxborough ward.  This will involve providing light refreshments to the patients, collecting of medication, social interaction with patients, portering patients by wheelchair and other ad-hoc duties required on the ward.

Peddars Way Ward Support

You will be providing support to the nursing team on Peddars Way, our End-of-Life Unit. This will involve providing light refreshments to families, collecting of medication and other supplies, maintaining kitchen area and stock levels and other ad-hoc duties required on the ward.

Rudham Ward

You will be providing support to the staff and nursing team on Rudham, our Paediatrics ward. This will involve providing light refreshments to the patients, collecting of medication, social interaction with patients, portering patients by wheelchair and other ad-hoc duties required on the ward.
