Position Description: Volunteer Chef
Organisation: STAR Community Services
Location: Underwood
Reports To: Program Manager
Position Type: Volunteer
Time Commitment: 2-3 Days per week (commitment of 6 months +)
Purpose of the Role
The Volunteer Chef plays a key role in supporting STAR Community Services to deliver nutritious, culturally appropriate meals to the community. This role contributes to improving wellbeing and social inclusion by ensuring safe, high-quality food service within a commercial kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook meals in line with planned menus and dietary requirements
- Support the development of nutritious, cost-effective, and culturally inclusive menus
- Ensure compliance with Australian food safety standards and regulations
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in accordance with Food Safety Standards (FSANZ)
- Assist with stock control, food storage, and minimising food waste
- Support, guide, and work alongside other volunteers in the kitchen
- Follow all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) procedures
- Assist with meal service and community food programs as required
Skills and Experience
- Experience in a commercial kitchen, catering, or high-volume food preparation
- Sound knowledge of food safety and hygiene practices
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Strong teamwork and communication skills
- Ability to take direction and also work independently
Qualifications (Desirable/Required)
- Relevant hospitality or cookery Experience
