STAR General - STAR Tech Tutor Volunteer
Our STAR Tech Tutors assist seniors in developing their skills and confidence in using a smartphone or device to stay connected online.
This includes basic activities, such as:
- video chatting with their loved ones
- doing online research on personal interests, hobbies and activities
- accessing news, books, videos and music online
- connecting with like-minded people, building friendships and making new social connections
STAR Tech is a unique program that supports seniors using digital technology in their everyday lives. STAR Tech Tutor volunteers support participants in learning basic online skills via workshops, phone/video calls, and home visits.
Requirements:
- a good understanding of how to use smartphones/devices (you don't need to be an IT expert)
- be trustworthy, reliable and caring
- possess patience and a sense of humour
- have a genuine interest in helping others
- able to recognise and respect the dignity, privacy, spiritual and cultural needs of clients
- have, or be prepared to have a Flu Vaccination
All applicants are required to obtain:
- a National Police Check
- a NDIS Workers' Screening Check (previously a Yellow Card)
STAR Community Services will assist successful applicants to obtain these.
The program is run by STAR Community Services and supported by the Australian Government Department of Health through the Commonwealth Home Support Programme Innovation Funding.
Successful applicants will receive a full induction and training. Volunteers are expected to commit up to 6 hrs a week to support participants.
