SHARE Special Events - Food Distribution Drivers for Senior Centers
Support the seniors in our community by assisting with a food distribution at 3 different senior centers in Maryland! Volunteers will help unload food boxes of produce, proteins, and prepared meals at three Senior Centers in need. Now more than ever we need volunteers to assist our operations as more people in our community begin to rely upon local food donation centers. Grab a friend or two and meet at the Emerson House Apartments in Bladensburg for a fun, quick, and impactful volunteer event.
Location: Meet at the SHARE Food truck in the parking lot of the Emerson House Apartments, 5999 Emerson St, Bladensburg, MD. Volunteers will then drive to the next two locations, helping to unload food at each site.
Date: Thursday, December 10
Time: 11:00am - 1:00pm
Volunteer Duties:
- Unload the SHARE truck and bring boxes of food into the Senior Centers (volunteers will not interact with residents but will drop the food packages in an empty room at each location)
- Provide your own transportation to each of the 3 senior centers (within a few miles of each other - specific addresses to be provided later)
- Be able to lift and carry 15 lbs. repeatedly
- Wear a mask and maintain social distancing
Desired Skills and Characteristics:
- 16 years of age and older
- Legally able to drive and provide their own transportation
- Helpful and cooperative and a calm demeanor.
- Able to follow directions and maintain a safe environment.
- Able to lift approximately 30 pounds at a time and lighter weights repeatedly.
