Emergency Response Team - Veterinarian
When emergencies strike, animals need urgent veterinary care — and your skills as a qualified vet can be lifesaving. Join our Emergency Response Volunteer Team and provide critical care to animals and their owners affected by bushfires and other emergencies across NSW.
This is a skilled, high-impact role for an experienced veterinarian who is ready to step up when their community needs them most.
What you'll be doing
- Conducting health assessments and triaging animals impacted by emergencies
- Administering essential medical treatment and medications, and referring to local vets for follow-up treatment where required
- Documenting all veterinary procedures, treatments and assessments
- Collaborating with RSPCA NSW staff and other volunteers to create a safe and caring environment for animals
- Offering guidance and support to pet owners regarding their animals' health and welfare
- Providing friendly and empathetic support to pet owners during what may be an incredibly difficult time
What we're looking for
- Registered veterinary surgeon with a minimum of two years experience (essential)
- Experience working in a team environment
- Ability to empathise and communicate with individuals experiencing hardship and trauma
- Demonstrated affinity with animals and a genuine commitment to animal welfare
- Comfortable lifting heavy equipment and spending extended periods on your feet
Time commitment
This is an as-needed role activated during emergency situations. The time commitment will vary depending on the scale and urgency of relief efforts. Volunteers will always be informed of deployment opportunities in advance.
