Patient Support - Adult Mental Health and Addictions 62, Activity Leader
Description
The volunteer will lead an activity of interest for patients on this Adult Mental Health and Addictions unit. Providing socialization and structured activities for patients will contribute to increased quality of care and experience during hospitalization. Potentially a good role for those interested in medicine, psychiatric nursing, social work, therapeutic recreation, occupational therapy, or psychology fields of study.
Requirements
- interest in Adult Mental Health, Addictions and Recreation
- very good English communication skills
- outgoing, mature, confident, assertive
- reliable, flexible, empathetic, understanding
- good judgment related to patient care and safety
- able to set personal boundaries
- self-motivated, able to work independently, leadership skills an asset
- minimum of 18yrs. old preferred
- able to work a minimum of one 1.5-2 hour shift, weekly
- this position may require a second interview
- volunteer could choose to lead: trivia, card games, boardgames, music appreciation, indoor bowling, movie night, etc.
- experience with people who are living with mental illness and addictions, preferred
- experience leading group activities, preferred
- some education related to mental illness and/or addictions
