Royal Alexandra Hospital | Lois Hole Hospital for Women

Alberta Health Services (AHS) volunteers are individuals looking for a rewarding opportunity to provide meaningful support to patients, their families, and staff, through a variety of positions.

Volunteers are a vital link in the important work of Alberta Health Services.

What is the Role of the Volunteer?

Accessing health care can often be an overwhelming and stressful experience. Volunteers provide assistance to patients and their families in an array of roles throughout a patient’s health care journey.

Volunteers are not placed in professional roles i.e., nurse, therapist, physician.

What are the Qualities of a Volunteer?

If you are interested in volunteering with AHS, consider if you have an interest and ability in:

  • Being able to work collaboratively with health care providers to improve care and experiences for patients and their families
  • Having a powerful desire to help others
  • Having an ability to work independently or as part of a team
  • Being a compassionate listener and respectful of the perspectives of others
  • Being consistently available for weekly scheduled shifts, for eight consecutive months
