General Description
This position is a member of the PMI-LA Board of Directors. Candidates need to go through the Board of Directors nominations process conducted by the PMI-LA Nominations Committee and must be elected by the PMI-LA membership through the annual chapter elections. Prior to receiving the Board of Directors application, candidates must fill out and submit an online screening form by October 9, 2026 to determine eligibility to run for this position.
All candidates must be members in good standing of PMI-LA.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities
As a Member of the Board of Directors
- Perform and uphold all duties as specified by the PMI-LA Bylaws.
- Uphold fiduciary, legal, and ethical responsibilities and help ensure required Chapter legal and financial filings and reporting are completed on a timely basis.
- Actively contribute to Board-level strategic planning, prioritization, governance, and decision-making.
- May sign Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) as they pertain to networking events approved by the Board of Directors.
As Vice President of Membership
Board Leadership and Governance
- Report to the President and Board of Directors in the role of Vice President of Membership.
- Take direction from the President and Board of Directors in the role of Vice President of Membership.
- Perform and uphold all policies specified by the PMI-LA Board of Directors.
- Perform and uphold applicable management policies specified by the President and agreed to by the Board.
- Delegate duties and execution responsibilities, but not accountability, to members of the Membership team or others as appropriate.
- Review and approve member-related promotions to ensure no conflict with the Chapter's interests.
Membership Analytics and Reporting
- Maintain monthly membership records in a Chapter-approved document repository.
- Regularly report membership metrics and trends to the Board of Directors and provide statistical data as required by PMI, the Board, or the President.
- Analyze membership growth, retention, renewal, demographics, engagement, and other relevant KPIs to identify opportunities and risks.
- Use the PMI Chapter Reporting System (CRS), ThoughtSpot, or comparable PMI systems to support data-driven membership strategies and decisions.
Membership Growth, Retention, and Engagement
- Identify target populations of members and prospective members and develop programs that engage existing members and attract new members to PMI-LA.
- Develop and oversee targeted membership campaigns designed to increase awareness, acquisition, engagement, renewal, and retention.
- Partner with other Board functions to develop networking, educational, community-building, and member engagement opportunities.
- Schedule Chapter networking events and provide follow-up surveys to identify trends, member needs, and opportunities for improvement.
- Monitor member feedback and engagement trends and recommend initiatives that strengthen the PMI-LA member experience.
- Promote awareness and utilization of PMI and PMI-LA membership benefits and resources.
New Member Experience
- Maintain New Chapter Member documentation and videos.
- Oversee new member onboarding and orientation.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of the new member experience and identify opportunities to increase early engagement and retention.
- Ensure new members receive timely information about PMI-LA programs, benefits, events, volunteer opportunities, and resources.
Membership Communications and Collaboration
- In conjunction with Marketing & Communications, maintain an inventory of informative literature about PMI and Chapter membership for prospective, new, and existing members.
- Collaborate with Marketing & Communications to develop campaigns promoting the benefits and value of PMI and PMI-LA membership.
- Maintain regular communications with other Vice Presidents to inform and coordinate Chapter needs and opportunities affecting members.
- Partner with Volunteer Engagement to promote volunteer opportunities to members while Volunteer Engagement owns chapter-wide volunteer recruitment, application processing, onboarding, tracking, recognition, retention, and offboarding.
Membership Team Management
- Manage the Membership-approved budget.
- Produce and maintain governance documents to guide members of the Membership team.
- Maintain Membership documents and records in PMI-LA's chosen document management system.
- Develop Membership team members' role descriptions.
- Onboard and offboard members of the Membership team.
- Develop and oversee leadership succession planning for Membership and ensure a smooth transition.
Policy Ownership
Membership-specific policies as assigned by the Board of Directors. The Rewards & Recognition Policy and other chapter-wide volunteer engagement policies are now assigned to the Vice President of Volunteer Engagement.

Functional Boundary with Volunteer Engagement
The Vice President of Membership owns the member lifecycle, including membership acquisition, renewal and retention, new member orientation, member engagement, membership benefits awareness, membership campaigns, member feedback, membership analytics, networking and community-building, and leadership of the Membership function. The Vice President of Volunteer Engagement owns the chapter-wide volunteer lifecycle, including volunteer recruitment, application processing, onboarding and orientation, volunteer management systems, tracking and reporting, recognition, satisfaction and retention, volunteer role governance, and volunteer offboarding.
Required for the role
- Preference to at least one year of volunteer experience with PMI-LA, or other PMI affiliated chapters / committees, or a combination of both.
