Offsite Events Volunteer

Overview: The APF attends many off-site adoption and community outreach events throughout the year. Volunteers need to be friendly and informative representatives of the APF to talk about who we are, assist with adoption applications, and answer questions as needed. The position will require politely asking for donations, set up/break down of the booth/tables, and returning items and attending pets to the shelter after the event.

Prerequisites: Customer Service Webinar

Job Duties:
- Transport supplies, enrichment and animals (if requested) to and/or from events.
- Set-up and/or break down event equipment (i.e. tents, tables, cat kennels, etc) and supplies (i.e. brochures, flyers, merchandise, etc.).
- Talk with people attending the event about APF programs and services.
- Answer questions about the APF and adoptable animals to the best of your knowledge.
- Preform sales transactions (cash and credit card).
- Ensure that the APF event area remains clean, organized, and well stocked.

Days & Hours Needed: Offsite event volunteers work on an "as needed" basis.

Requirements: Communicate in a way that demonstrates and promotes collaboration, cooperation, problem solving and interpersonal skills to foster a positive work environment, teamwork, and productivity. Other requirements are as follows:
  • Must follow the mission of the APF
  • Must attend New Volunteer Orientation
  • Must attend Animal Handling training if transporting and/or handling animals
  • Knowledge of APF policies and protocols
  • Ability to represent the APF in a professional manner in all situations with the public, volunteers, and staff
  • Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures
  • Organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks
  • Must be able to squat and bend, lift and reach, stand for up to two hours and lift up to 20 lbs
  • Must be patient, courteous, outgoing, and able to handle stressful situations when dealing with customers and animals.
