Overview: Assist our ACCS in the daily care of our animals and cleaning of the shelter. Morning small animal care shifts are available for animals such as hamsters, guinea pigs, rabbits, etc.

Job Duties: - Clean all cages/runs in your assigned area in a timely manner, according to procedures. - Provide clean water to all small animals - Feed small animals - Take out trash - Clean floors of assigned areas - Wash dishes, perform laundry tasks, restock areas with supplies - Assist with the accuracy and professional appearance of animal identification records (cage cards, animal observation binders)

Requirements: Communicate in a way that demonstrates and promotes collaboration, cooperation, problem solving, and interpersonal skills to foster a positive work environment, teamwork and productivity. Other requirements are as follows:
- Must follow the mission of the APF
- Must attend New Volunteer Orientation
- Knowledge of APF policies and protocols
- Willingness to clean up animal waste
- Must be able to work safely and respectfully around animals
- Experience handling animals is preferred, but training is required regardless
- Must be able to follow sanitation and safety protocols
- Ability and willingness to learn animal behavior
- Volunteers must read and comprehend detailed policy and protocol information, shelter signage and remember and follow shelter rules.
- Must maintain a positive relationship with all staff, volunteers, and clients
- Must be able to squat and bend
- Most volunteer roles require volunteers to stand and/or walk for up to 2 hours, lift and carry up to 20 lbs, reach and lift, possess vision abilities including close vision, distance vision and depth perception, and speak to customers, employees, and other volunteers
- Able to withstand exposure to animal odors, diseases, possible contagious conditions, bites, scratches, animal waste, and moderate noise levels as well as cleaning chemicals.
