Dog Enrichment/Adventure Squad

Overview: Assist with socializing, providing enrichment, and offering off site adventures such as hiking, car rides, and visiting sniffspots for the APF dogs to get a break from the kennels or support for anxiety.

Prerequisites:
- Basic Dog Skills Course
- Advanced Dog Skills Course

Job Duties:
- Assist APF staff with creating in-kennel enrichment such as kongs, puzzle toys, etc
- Assist APF staff in monitoring freezer space and cleanliness of the dish area
- Walk dogs that would benefit from more advanced dog handlers
- Take dogs off site for kennel breaks to locations such as hiking trails, local on-leash parks, sniffspots, or car rides.
- Assist as approved by APF staff in working with dogs with behavioral needs such as fear-based issues or anxiety.

Days & Hours Needed: Onsight volunteer opportunities such as walking/enrichment are available Tuesday-Saturday with flexible hours. Off sight adventures would be available daily, flexible within staff working hours. 

Requirements: Communicate in a way that demonstrates and promotes collaboration, cooperation, problem solving, and interpersonal skills to foster a positive work environment, teamwork, and productivity. Other requirements are as follows:
  • Must follow the mission of the APF
  • Must attend New Volunteer Orientation, Basic Dog Skills Course, and Advanced Dog Skills Course
  • Must be approved to handle each dog individually with the assistance of APF staff members
  • Knowledge of APF policies and protocols
  • Must agree to follow all off-property and on-property safety rules in regard to dog handling
  • Ability to learn and quickly adapt to changes in programs and procedures
  • Must have a driver's license in good standing for off-site transport
  • Must be able to squat and bend, lift and reach, stand and walk for up to 2 hours and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be willing to represent the APF respectfully and safely while walking to taking dogs in public spaces.
